Easy Tips to have a Healthy Hair

That woman is out there: she has perfect hair that is frizz-free and salon styled. She looks like her hair is fresh out of a commercial for expensive hair products. She uses the best products and makes sure that she follows all of the instructions, which of course, has left her hair looking flawless and healthy.
You might think that your daily routine prohibits you from having gorgeous, healthy locks, just like that woman. But, you are wrong. There are several easy things you can do to get and keep healthy hair. Each step can be added to your routines and some can even cut time out of your routine!
Here are five do’s and don’ts to help make your hair manageable and healthy so you never have to worry about bad hair days again:
  1. Only wash two or three times each week. Experts debate the exact number of times you should wash your hair on a weekly basis, but they do agree that most people overwash their hair. Expert stylists know that shampoo and conditioner actually work against the natural oils that hair has. With over-washing, oils build-up. Instead, washing just two or three times each week let those natural oils do their job of making your hair healthy. Colored hair needs to be only washed a few times each week, too. Shampoo can actually cause colored hair to become dull and lifeless. Stylists recommend buying a high quality shampoo to use one or twice per week and use conditioner on the other days. If you are concerned, your stylist can recommend a wash and condition schedule based on your hair type and scalp activity. Women with straight hair usually need more shampoos each week than women with curly hair need. If you do need to wash because you spend a lot of time at the gym, a water-only rinse can help and so can a dry shampoo.
  2. When you do shampoo, do it the right way. You should avoid using hot water when you shampoo. It is also important to use the right amount of shampoo, about the size of a medium-sized coin. Shampoo should be massaged onto the scalp and not on the ends of the hair, because it will dry out the ends.
  3. Towel dry, then condition. Your hair quality and color will benefit from the conditioner you use. After spending a small fortune at the salon, you should invest in a conditioner that will maintain the investment. Your stylist can recommend a daily conditioner and a deep conditioner that will add the moisture and nutrients your hair needs. You should always towel-dry your hair prior to conditioning, because the wetness will block the conditioner from being absorbed into the hair. Unlike shampooing, you should apply the conditioner to the ends and not the roots.
  4. Brush the right way, too. Your hair does need to be maintained throughout the day with brushing and combing. The best way to brush is in the morning and before bed for about 60 seconds. If your hair is wet, you should only use a wide comb on it because brushing will cause breakage. The best way to comb is from the ends to the roots to avoid breakage. Just like you clean your makeup brushes, you should also clean your hair brushes so that they do not develop oil build-up. It is best to use a water and baking soda combination once per month to keep brushes and combs clean.
  5. Use your hairdryer properly. Hair dryers and hair straighteners are the two biggest culprits for hair damage. The best way to keep your hair healthy is to avoid using products that force heat on your head.

Your stylist can recommend products that will give you the look you want without having to use heat. If you cannot cut back completely on your hairdryer, try to only use it once or twice per week by using a variety of styles to make the blowout last longer.

You can also use a protective treatment before using a hairdryer or curling iron; many of the products can help moisturize and nourish the hair by using the heat. When you do use your hairdryer, make sure you have distance between the nozzle end and your hair. Two inches is the minimum distance you should use and you should start with your head flipped upside down so you can move your hair as you dry it. Then, once you have about 20 percent left of your hair to dry, flip back over and move the dryer around to protect hair from overheating.

Having a healthy hair is a dream to all women. Use these daily tips to have a healthy hair and give your hair a treatment to make it look healthier.
